Spark your creativity with sustainably sourced yarn + fiber

Introducing Yarn It! a new workshop series for crafty folks who are interested in reuse, fiber arts, and learning together. This series will embody the values and beliefs of The Deviled Eggery's programs:

Protecting the Environment - Instead of running out to Michael's and Ross for piles of craft supplies and clothing harvested in China from the corpses of innocent Acrylics and Polyesters, and then shipping the sad slag of these cast-aside whims to Africa to live in eternity as moldering mountains of toxic debris, we will be lovingly re-crafting the poor discarded skeins and yardages that have already made their ways onto our shores and into our closets. Meanwhile, we will be learning to keep it truly local by embracing the fiber from our neighborhood soil-health grazers.

Advocating for Mental Health - By advocating, I mean directly improving. Stuck on a problem? Mind racing? Sad, anxious, nervous, confused? Try sitting with some knitting for a little while. Or plunge your hands into a sink full of hot soapy water and fleece fresh off a grazer, then card it into a pile of fluff, then rhythmically spin it into fabulous yarn. Better yet, do it in the company of supportive folks doing the same thing while catching each other up on all the latest local happenings. Besides the social benefits of connecting with others, studies have shown knitting and crocheting to help with chronic pain, memory loss, blood pressure, and anxiety, among other health benefits!

Social Justice - for folks without a lot of disposable income, walking into a yarn store feels like walking into Tiffany's. Zero chance of walking out with your shopping bags full. The Deviled Eggery firmly believes in swapping not shopping. We have already stockpiled quite the little boutique-full of yarn and fiber implements - all happily donated by folks who were tired of seeing it cluttering up their storage spaces. Need a ride? Need a translation? We've 100% got your back.

The Expressive Arts - A local-wool onesie with a repurposed feather boa tail? Snazzy felted fedora with embroidered farm animals? Crocheted manthongkini in a rainbow of salvaged acrylic glory? Choose your tool, choose your fiber. We challenge you to be as artistically expressive as you dare.
